Denim and my wonder of tree trunk textures were the inspirations for this project. After experimenting with the material and different techniques, I thought it would be interesting to try to embroider the fabric using no other threads but its own weft threads. These were linked together applying crochet knitting techniques in a new way. I was amazed by the resulting texture and its similarity to that of tree bark. I also randomly incorporated some warp threads growing to simulate the softer moss texture. I then designed and made an outfit using the first technique and inspired in the form of the tree trunk and the spaces where the bark falls and uncovers the plain inner layer of the trunk. In a way, exposing the essence of the tree, this is present in the pants, revealing the essence of denim: classic jeans. This project was part of a competition sponsored by the denim company TAVEX, in which moss&bark won first place.
