Throughout the semester I learned different screen printing techniques. The first project was a team exercise using freehand painting. We were given as a starting the theme of landscapes. From this, we decided to make an abstraction of an image and use four different colors. The second exercise was about designing a pattern to be throughout a piece of fabric. The element I decided to experiment with was an artichoke. I played around with different compositions and chose the one which I finally screen printed several times on a linen fabric. The third and final exercise we applied the photographic screen printing technique, in which a photograph is printed in black and white, giving the image volume with lights and shadows. I worked with two elements: eyes and lips. I was aiming for a clean and quirky design. Finally, I added some beads as if they were tears streaming from the eyes.
